Years & Years Is Transforming From a Trio to Olly Alexander’s Solo Project: ‘We’re Still Good Friends’

As fans anxiously await the release of new music from British synthpop group Years & Years, the band is announcing that the new songs will be coming from just one of the trio’s members.

On Thursday (March 18), Years & Years took to their social media to announce that Olly Alexander, the trio’s frontman, will be taking over the group as a solo project, while founding members Emre Turkmen and Mikey Goldsworthy take on more behind-the-scenes roles.

“This upcoming new album has been an Olly endeavor and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project,” the statement read.

The message posted to their Twitter assured fans that all three members are still close friends, and that Turkmen and Goldsworthy will still be working with Alexander in the future — just not as members of the group. “The three of us are still good friends,” the statement noted. “Mikey will be part of the Y&Y family and play with us live, and Emre will focus on being a writer/producer.”

Years & Years confirmed that new music will still be released this spring, and thanked their fans one last time. “These past 12 months have been crazy for us all and we want to thank you for the love and support you’ve given us over the years (& years),” they wrote.
