Microsoft has dropped a huge update to their continued efforts to improve legacy titles on their new Series X and Series S console. Over 70 older games will see a higher frame rate via backward compatibility thanks to FPS Boost, proprietary technology that lets titles released for previous systems take advantage of the more advanced innards of the latest Xbox hardware.

The list stretches from eternally popular titles like the Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed games to more obscure hits like Mad Max and indie standouts like Hollow Knight.  With FPS Boost, older titles that may have run at 30 FPS or had trouble reaching 60 FPS are boosted with the power of the current generation into smooth 60 FPS or 120 FPS performance. The results vary from title to title and whether the player is using a Series X or Series S.

With drops like this FPS Boost expansion, Xbox continually provides free enhancements that likely would have been part of a paid rerelease in the previous generation. FPS Boost was first introduced just a little over a month ago, and it already covers almost 100 titles. As with previous backward compatibility enhancements, players can expect regular additions to this list and what games support Auto HDR.
